Uby Martinez

Director of Hitting Development

 

Martinez carries 18 years of high school coaching experience, including 12 as associate head coach at Iowa City Regina. He was assistant coach at Cornell College for the last six years before recently becoming the 9th grade coach at Liberty High School. While at Regina he helped guide the Regals to three conference titles and one district crown. Martinez was named 2009 Southeast District Assistant Coach of the Year by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association.

Martinez, a 1993 graduate of Columbus Junction High School, served as head baseball coach there from 1999-2003. More than 20 of his former players at Columbus Junction and Iowa City Regina have gone on to play baseball at the collegiate level.

Martinez has worked on the University of Iowa's baseball camp staff for over a decade. Coach Martinez’s knowledge and success has resulted in him being a speaker/presenter at the Iowa Baseball Coaches' Association state clinic.

He earned an associate's degree in elementary education from Kirkwood Community College in 1995. Martinez graduated from the University of Iowa in 1998 with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. He received his Masters of Education in Collaborative Teaching from Graceland University in 2007.

Martinez teaches in the Iowa City school district. He and his wife, Carrie, reside in North Liberty with their three daughters, Ellie, 13, Maisie, 9, and Gabbie, 5.
